ABOUT CHIROPRACTIC

Gentle, safe and effective approach to spinal health

Chiropractic is about helping tour body work at its best. Chiropractic principals are simple at its core. We recognize that the human body is self-healing and self-regulating, these normal bodily functions are controlled by your central nervous system. Your central nervous nervous system is surrounded by bony structures like your skull and spine.

Sometimes the stresses and strains of daily life can overload your spine and nervous system, which in turn can lead to vertebrae in your spine becoming dysfunctional (Vertebral Subluxation). These dysfunctional vertebrae interfere with the messages from the brain effectively reaching the body and vice versa.

This can affect movement patterns, muscle balance, spinal pain and even the function. It's important to note that most dysfunctional segments do not cause pain (as the majority of nerves are not nociceptive or pain-sensing)

Chiropractors look for these spinal dysfunctions and correct these with chiropractic adjustments. With our hands, we gently apply the right amount of pressure to nudge these vertebra into becoming "unstuck" or its proper function/position.

By correcting these spinal dysfunctions, we find that the nervous system and your body are better able to communicate with one another, better heal itself, and perform at its full potential

Chiropractic care is used most often to treat neuromusculoskeletal complaints, including but not limited to:

  • Neck pain

  • Back pain

  • Disc pain/ Sciatica

  • Headaches

  • Posture

Millions of people choose chiropractic care as a way of looking after their spinal health

NECK AND SHOULDER PAIN

Your neck consist of 7 spinal bones called cervical vertebrae. The alignment of these spinal bones should have a gentle forward curve and should look straight when face on. When the cervical vertebrae are all functioning properly, they allow you to twist and turn your head and neck in all directions and should be pain free.

Pain, discomfort or just simply tightness in the neck or shoulders could indicate that something isn't functioning correctly.

BACK PAIN

There are many reasons why people can experience back pain. Whether its irritation of the nerve rich facet joints of the spine, the disc between the spinal bones, the ligaments that hold all the spinal bones together, musculature spasms, improper posture or simply due to injury

Research has shown the people who recieve chiropractic care to manage their back pain report*

  • reported less pain intensity

  • experienced less disability and more improvement in function

  • reported higher satisfaction with their treatment

  • needed less pain medicine.

HEADACHES

Headaches are a symptom of an underlying issue. Headaches are common but they are not normal.

A cause of headaches can originate from the neck. These types of headaches are often associated with reduced motion of the neck, pain on one side of the face or neck, pain and stiffness of the neck, pain around the eyes, pain in the neck, shoulder or arm, head pain that is trigger by certain movements of the neck or positions

If spinal bones in the neck are not supporting your head properly, if they are not moving correctly, people can often get headaches associated with this.

Evidence suggest that people with these kind of headaches can be helped with chiropractic care*

SCIATICA/DISC PAIN

Sciatica is pain caused by problems with the sciatic nerve, or the nerve root that leaves the spine.

This kind of pain often starts in the lower back and is associated with pain and numbness that travels down one or both legs.

Long standing spinal misalignment can make the discs and nerves susceptible to damage.

Chiropractors are skilled to asses the most common causes of disc and sciatic pain and offer a natural approach to relief.

POSTURE

Posture is the position in which you hold your body while standing, sitting, or lying down. Good posture involves getting your body in the best position which puts the least strain on your muscles, ligaments and bones while you are moving, performing weight bearing exercise, sitting, sleeping or standing.

Good postures help

  • Keep your bones and joints in alignment so that muscles are used properly

  • Helps prevent wear and tear of joint surfaces to help prevent onset of degeneration

  • Decrease strain on the ligaments on the spine

  • Prevents the spine from being fixed in abnormal positions

  • Prevents backache and muscular pain

ELDERLY

Poor posture in an elderly population has been associated with future dependence with regards to average daily living*

Research suggests that chiropractic care can help you main your ability to live independently and look after yourself*

Falls are also a leading cause in injury related hoispital admissions in this age group. A research study in NZ has shown that chiropractic care between the ages of 65-89 can improve several factor associated with the prevention of falls.*
